In Irish folklore, Caoránach was a monster which was banished by St Patrick to Lough Derg (a lake 6 by 4 miles, 4 miles NW of Pettigoe in south Co. Donegal), turning its waters red.
Description
Perceived as female, Caoránach was said to be the mother of demons and devils.
