File:Hellhound
A hellhound

A "hellhound"(sometimes hell hound or hell-hound)is a monstrous creature that serves Hell. It is usually associated with Fire, and is defined as ash black fur, red glowing eyes, jagged teeth, super strength and speed, and 4 times the size of an average dog. Encountering them is considered to be a sign of imminent death.

Etymology & Lore

The most famous hellhound is most likely Cerberus from Greek mythology. Hellhounds are famous for appearing in Northern European folklore and mythology as part of the Wild Hunt. These hounds are given many different names in local myth, but they are similar in appearance. The myth is common across Great Britain. Many names are given to the apparitions, including Moddey Dhoo of the Isle of Man, Gwyllgi of Wales, and so on.

In Southern Mexican and Central American myth, the Cadejo is a large black dog that haunts travellers who walk late at night on rural roads.
