Lotan or Lawtan is the seven-headed sea serpent or dragon slain by Baal in the Syro-Palestinian myth.

Etymology

Lawtan means the serpent of Law/Lot.

Origin

Lotan is either a pet of the god Yaw or Yaw himself, who was also known as Yam (sea) or Nahar (river); the cosmic ocean of the creation is often known as a great stream. In the Hebrew dialect of the Old Testament, he is referred to as Leviathan.
